Magazine Spread on Bird DeathSpring 2025During my Information Visualization course, we were assigned to research a cause we care about and find data on it to present our conclusions as if they were featured in a magazine spread. We chose magazines that fit our topic and designed in the style of our various magazines.

I chose to research the topic of bird population decline in the US. I came to the conclusion that in urban environments, birds are most likely to die from collision into a window. In cities such as San Francisco, high rise buildings are even more of a risk to birds. I chose Nature magazine because I appreciated and was inspired by the practical yet beautiful spreads, and it aligned with my topic.

This project challenged me because I was forced to work within strict limits. I tried to reframe these limitations as an exercise in creativity, in which I have to think of ways to express my data in a unique and compelling way that is also practical and aligned with the style of Nature mag.
